I have used this pen for the last 6 years. I think I bought it when they first came out. The way it feels in your hand, the way it smoothly glides on the paper, ANY kind of paper. I highly recommend this pen as the first purchase or gift purchase. It is a great starter pen for a fountain pen collection. You will never regret the purchase.

Staedtler Calligraphy Pen Set, 33 Pieces Review

Staedtler Calligraphy Pen Set, 33 Pieces
Average Reviews:

It baffels me how many people wrote negative reviews on a product they obviously knew nothing about. I checked out this pen set and one of the first things I noticed was when it said it was a great set for BEGINNERS. Of course you're not going to get the same quality from these pens as you would from a several-hundred-dollar professional set, but it's great for what it is. It's a great set to start out with. So far I haven't had a problem with ANY of the pins or nibs. When I got it I immediately inserted an ink cartridge into each nib and went to town. Was able to doodle and scratch around for quite a surprising time before the ink ran out. The ink does bleed through the paper some, but alot of that can be countered by the pressure you put on the pen, as well as adjusting the angle/speed of your stroke. While the "instruction booklet" is more of a letter guide, showing you multiple calligraphic alphabets, but does not show you how to make each letter (tho with a little common sense and practice it can be figured out pretty easily). One thing that pleasingly surprised me about this set was the fact that you don't have to worry about "Lefty-Splatter" (a condition common to left handed people as with certain strokes we're actually pushing the nib across the paper instead of pulling it, which sometimes causes the nib to splatter extra ink on the page, a problem which I have yet to encounter.
So basically, to sum this up, it's not a high dollar professional set, but for a beginner it is a fine starter set.

Calligraphy Pen Set Review

Calligraphy Pen Set
Average Reviews:

I had always wanted a calligraphy pen set but never actually bought one until now. Not one like this anyway. I've used ones from like Michael's and it was ok but this set I love. It's really easy to use and write beautifully. There are no ink blots when you're trying to write and taking care of the nibs are super easy. I'm constantly using it now instead of my regular pens. I would definately recommned this set to anyone who would like to try it themselves or get it as a gift.

I wore my old calligraphy pen out and was delighted when I found a replscement that I was familiar with. Even better was the improved window in the barrel that lets me know when I am getting low on ink. Just what I needed.

Moleskine Ruled Notebook Large Review

Moleskine Ruled Notebook Large
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

I've been journaling ever since I was a pimply-faced teenager, and now I'm 31. In that time, I've used all varieties of notebooks, and filled them all. I came across the Moleskine brand a few years ago, and now I won't use anything else. The large ruled notebook is sturdy, of excellent construction, holds I think 265 pages, and the pages will not fall out. This notebook is best for writers and diarists.
I wouldn't use this book for school because, first of all, it is expensive. Second of all, it's a bit of overkill. I doubt you'll take a class in which you'll have time to fill up this notebook. You'll be more organized in a class if you buy a simple lab book or composition book to take notes in for each class.
I know a lot of people who try to write in jounals. They buy them with the best intentions, write a couple of pages, and then seem to forget about them and eventually buy ANOTHER journal, in which they will write a few pages and forget about. The key is just to keep the SAME journal, to keep in it in the same safe place, and to write in it whenever you feel like it, even if months go by without you touching it. If someone buys you another journal, fill up the first one first, and then move on to the new one. You can learn from my experience and start with the best, which is Moleskine. Otherwise . . . do whatever you want. The main thing is just to have something to write in.
I've also used all variety of pens. My choice is the Pilot Precise V5. Every now and then you'll get a bum one, that you've just got to throw away because it's not writing smoothly or properly. But, for the most part, these are the best choice for journaling and writing. They are fine point. They last longer than gel ink. They require no pressure whatsoever to be placed on the tip, as ball-point pens do, and they don't smear.

I love this pen! It's one of the best calligraphy pens I've used! The ink is quality, though it does come out quick. You just have to learn your style to the point of writing quickly.
This pen gives exactly what it promises!

Noodlers Fountain Pen Ink - Summer Tanager (orange) Review

Noodlers Fountain Pen Ink - Summer Tanager (orange)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an interesting ink from Noodler's. I had read great reviews on other sites/forums about the color, and had to try it.
My first impression was that it was filled to the very, very top. I opened the bottle and there was this deep orange color that was unexpected, I thought the ink itself would be lighter in color, but no bother. Loaded it up into a newer Sheaffer Agio and got to writing.
I used it in that pen for about a week, fine nib with a converter. The ink was very thin compared to Noodler's American Eel Black. It flowed nicely, although wasn't as consistent in opacity/darkness as I was hoping. Perhaps it was the papers I use (standard office paper, notebooks, etc, nothing fancy here) but it would consistently be darker at the beginning and endings of letters and words. Not really bad, and not gloppy or bleeding, but just darker. On the second loading of ink I made sure to really shake the bottle up and make sure there wasn't any pigment settled to the bottom and I don't think it made a difference.
The color itself is cool. It's bright and jumps off the page, especially when I would take notes mixed with black or a navy blue, the two (or three) contrast beautifully.
I'm going to try this in a few of my other pens and see how it flows, if it's any better. I had an issue with it leaking out the back of the Sheaffer's converter, which I did not experience with the black. Again, I think the thinner ink exploited a problem with the converter that was already there, I just have to re-seal the threads. So really not a strike against the ink, just an observation. Will come back and update once I've had a bit more experience with this ink.
Overall, I recommend buying a bottle and trying it out. As I say the color is bright and full of energy, definitely worth having in your lineup.

Classic stainless steel Parker Jotter. They used to feel a little heavier (particularly the pencil), but still better quality for the price than most set out there. I would get the gel refills for the pen though. They write very cleanly and smoothly. Superior product at a very good price.

I don't know why the "one star" reviewer is complaining. This is a FOUNTAIN PEN and anyone searching for it will plainly see that is so. If you want a mechanical pencil, and Pelikan makes those as well, search for a mechanical pencil. Seem simple enough. In any event I own one of these FOUNTAIN PENS and they are extraordinalrily great. Write smoothly and are a joy to hold and look at. Worth every cent, especially at this price!

Pelikan Souveran 400 Black GT Fine Point Fountain Pen - 994772 Review

Pelikan Souveran 400 Black GT Fine Point Fountain Pen - 994772
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In my engineering days all the draftsmen had Pelikan equipment.
Decades after unsatisfactory experiences with two Mont Blancs [scratchy nib on one, a broken piston on the other], I decided that I really wanted a fountain pen again. I remembered Pelikan, and bought one.
The gold nib is silky smooth on the paper, with the ink flowing easily and without noticeable pressure. It flows readily even when I'm doing a crossword in bed and the nib is elevated.
In addition to superior quality, the Pelikan has another advantage over Mont Blanc -- the nib screws in and is easily replaced [Pelikan has a large variety of nibs, including also italic].
I now have four Souveran 400s [which fit my rather smallish hand] and four different ink colors. People with large hands might prefer the 600.
A flawless writing instrument.

Mont Blanc Meisterstuck 149 Fountain Pen Review

Mont Blanc Meisterstuck 149 Fountain Pen

This is an outstanding fountain pen all around. It writes well, very smoothly, and it looks great too. I'd have to say my handwriting with this fountain pen looks much much better vs. before I got this pen. I've let others I know use it too and again it seemed to make their penmanship look better. If you look closely on the tip you can see just how much detail went into this pen. You get what you pay for, definitely.
FinalVerdict:
If you need a fountain pen and you aren't on a tight budget this is the one to get.

Pelikano Junior Fountain Pen P67 Green Review

Pelikano Junior Fountain Pen P67 Green
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a couple of expensive fountain pens, but honestly? this $11 kid's pen is the one I use most of the time. I initially got it because I wanted one that it wouldn't break my heart to loose. The waterman lives in a box. This one lives with me.
This pen is meant to be used by children learning how to write with a fountain pen, but I think it would probably work well for most adults. The ink flows smoothly, and I've never had it blot or clog the nib. It writes well on the cheap paper at work-- post it notes, copier paper, etc.
The pen is well designed too. The thick width of the pen is comfortable, and there's a rubbery anatomical grip that makes it easy to write with even for longer notes.
Plus, it's just cool looking. The fat, translucent barrel gets comments all the time-- take that, expensive waterman pens!
Love this pen!

Sharpie Pen Fine Point Pen, 12 Black Pens (1742663) Review

Sharpie Pen Fine Point Pen, 12 Black Pens (1742663)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I confess that I am a long-time Office Supply Geek. Every year around August/September I go to Staples and rummage through all their new organizational tools, post it notes, circa/rollabinders, journals and PENS.
I am very picky about the type of pen I use as I am a ferocious journal writer. So far the ones who have made the cut are the Pilot Priemere 207; Pilot G2 and G6 Gel pens; Liquid Expresso; Lamy Fountain Pen.
Personally, I love what I call the "engineer nibs" -- they stick out away from the pen on a small pin-like structure. Unfortunately, my longtime love with the Liquid Expresso nib has waned due to the fact it's writing performance appears to have changed: thicker lines, bleeds a tad. I even tried the Pilot Razor Extra Fine Point and it ended up depositing more ink and giving me fuzzy lines MORE SO than the Expresso Fine Point.
Then on my latest trip to Staples, I discovered Sharpie made their first pen. No bleed-through. No blotting. No fuzziness. And they aren't lying. The lines are smooth and with a slight edge to your handwriting which gives it a hint of calligraphy styling.
They are available in packages of 4 with versions of black ink; blue ink; or multi-colored (black, blue, green, red). I must say, Amazon's price for the 4 multi-colored at close to $20 is a surprise. Staples had it for $12, with the black or blue set for $6.
I highly recommend this pen for serious writers and those who simply love to dabble in journaling.

Simply put, this is a great fountain pen. I am a bit of a pen aficionado and have spent much time, effort and monies looking for that 'ultimate' pen.
The grip conforms to your specific grip. The fine point nib writes the first time every time. No skips. Use the ink converter and Noodler's ink (available on Amazon in a rainbow of colors. The bulletproof ink is impossible to remove as it bonds with the sugars in the paper)
I use this pen for taking notes for at least eight hours at a stretch. It never fails to write.

These notebooks are what I was looking for: you can write on both sides in ink, the paper is smooth and even. There is a space for a header at the top of each page and they are just slightly smaller than 8.5 x 11. With really high quality paper and a beautiful, simple design this is easily my favorite notebook. A+!
