Lamy Joy AL Fountain Pen - Black/Silver, 1.1mm Nib L11-1.1 Review

Lamy Joy AL Fountain Pen - Black/Silver, 1.1mm Nib L11-1.1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using a Safari for a few years and love it; I thought a broader tip might be a fun change of pace so I ordered this pen.
While I was disappointed with the cap (it doesn't stay on the end of the pen when in use) it's a lovely looking pen and the length of it makes it feel like an elegant writing piece.
I have the 1.1 nib, and find it has enough flare to be a bit fancier looking for letters and correspondence, but not so much it's not appropriate for use in the office.
I first tried to use a cartridge with it, but didn't like it. I found that the converter is a much smoother and consistent writing experience, no wonder it's included with the pen. If it matters I use the Lamy brand bottled ink. I'm very happy with the way it writes and wonder at this point if I'll go back to the regular Safari!

X750 Kompass Fountain Pen Review

X750 Kompass Fountain Pen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this pen because I wanted a fountain pen for daily use which was not a disposable and had some weight to it. So after some searching I decided on the X750 Kompass Fountain Pen. The price was right, it had the right weight and girth I was looking for and I liked the way it looked! I received my brand new pen in the mail shortly after ordering it! I also received a bottle of blue ink which was an added bonus! The pen came in a padded envelope with the ink along with an ink converter (screw type)and instructions. The pen is compatible with either cartridges or an ink converter, so I decided to use some ink cartridges I had on hand instead of the converter. Once the cartridge was installed and the pen was "inked" I wrote the word "Egypt" several times which is a standard way to test a fountain pen, because when you write "Egypt", it supposedly tests the writing of the pen from all angles? The pen laid down a real nice wet line, commensurate with the medium nib which came with the pen. Then I wrote "Egypt" fast a bunch of times and the pen continued to write very well! I have been using this pen on a daily basis for a a few weeks now and it writes like a champion! If I lost this pen now, I would be quite unhappy since it writes so well! It actually writes better than one of my more "expensive" brand name fountain pens which is ironic considering the brand name pen cost me a "mint"! I highly recommend this pen, though because of the price, I would hope the Quality Control system in place where this pen is manufactured is up to par? Too often with fountain pens which are "inexpensive" you get both good and bad because of inconsistent Quality Control systems?

Parker Frontier Stainless Steel Chrome Trim Fountain Pen Medium Point Review

Parker Frontier Stainless Steel Chrome Trim Fountain Pen Medium Point
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The re-encarnation of the Parker 51.
An entry level pen that I got for 7 euros and pleased me.
This is a stainless steel version, a bit heavier than the plastic ones and a bit too heavy for me. I prefer the ABS plastic ones.
However the SS pen is a great pen for the price. The nib is rated as medium but I agree that is a bit broad. Writes softly and smoothly. The other Frontier I have, a ChromaFlair with plastic barrel, has a fine nib and is better suited to my wrting. In any case Parker nibs are broader than the rest.
Overall I think for the price the Frontier line is better than other Parker's lines like the Vector or the Jotter.
Writing with fountain pen is a pleasure...

Sailor Profit Special Script Calligraphy Fountain Pen Review

Sailor Profit Special Script Calligraphy Fountain Pen
Average Reviews:

When I placed the order I was hoping to have a clear list of the parts and options. There was no mention if the pen would come with cartridges or with a reuseable pump for the ink. I was hoping that I could have a mechanism to refill the pen with my own inks. This needs to be stated and a chance given to order what one wants.

Lamy Safari Fountain Pen - Charcoal - Fine Review

Lamy Safari Fountain Pen - Charcoal - Fine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Somehow, I find some humor in the fact that this pen is so well rated, yet most reviewers take care to point out that it isn't the prettiest, most overpriced, or fanciest pens around. Unlike many companies, Lamy makes pens and pencils. They don't use pretentious euphemisms for pens like those other companies, nor do they charge 10x-100x what the pens are worth. They do make awesome pens like the Safari, which are indestructible and feel good in the hand, and they make some incredibly smooth nibs.
The Safari does make an awesome starter fountain pen, but it's a starter pen that'll last you your entire life. I recommend a Fine or Medium nib if you're new to a fountain pens. You can even buy spare nibs for the Lamy so that you can swap between different sizes.

Noodlers Fountain Pen Ink - Summer Tanager (orange) Review

Noodlers Fountain Pen Ink - Summer Tanager (orange)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an interesting ink from Noodler's. I had read great reviews on other sites/forums about the color, and had to try it.
My first impression was that it was filled to the very, very top. I opened the bottle and there was this deep orange color that was unexpected, I thought the ink itself would be lighter in color, but no bother. Loaded it up into a newer Sheaffer Agio and got to writing.
I used it in that pen for about a week, fine nib with a converter. The ink was very thin compared to Noodler's American Eel Black. It flowed nicely, although wasn't as consistent in opacity/darkness as I was hoping. Perhaps it was the papers I use (standard office paper, notebooks, etc, nothing fancy here) but it would consistently be darker at the beginning and endings of letters and words. Not really bad, and not gloppy or bleeding, but just darker. On the second loading of ink I made sure to really shake the bottle up and make sure there wasn't any pigment settled to the bottom and I don't think it made a difference.
The color itself is cool. It's bright and jumps off the page, especially when I would take notes mixed with black or a navy blue, the two (or three) contrast beautifully.
I'm going to try this in a few of my other pens and see how it flows, if it's any better. I had an issue with it leaking out the back of the Sheaffer's converter, which I did not experience with the black. Again, I think the thinner ink exploited a problem with the converter that was already there, I just have to re-seal the threads. So really not a strike against the ink, just an observation. Will come back and update once I've had a bit more experience with this ink.
Overall, I recommend buying a bottle and trying it out. As I say the color is bright and full of energy, definitely worth having in your lineup.

Namiki Falcon Fountain Pen - Black, Broad Nib 60352 Review

Namiki Falcon Fountain Pen - Black, Broad Nib 60352
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this pen as a Christmas gift, and I am thrilled with it. I have a lot of pens, including a few Namiki vanishing fountain pens. No surprise that Namiki made a good product.
The pen is lightweight, but still has enough balance to not feel "too" light. I usually like solid pens. This is a solid pen, but light. It reminds me of ... a quill. A bird feather is strong, but hollow and light. Though I've never written with a "real" quill, perhaps this is the inspiration.
The nib (mine is fine) is fine, but not scratchy. It seems perfectly balanced with the instrument. The ink flows gracefully as a bigger nib, but with a finer line.
The cap screws off/on, which is great for a pen with such fluid ink; no accidental cap slipping off in a pocket, or coming loose. It is solid all the way around.
The style is nice, and understated. It looks like the fine pen that it is.
Strongly recommended!

Franklin Covey Lexington, Fountain Pen with Medium Nib, Midnight Black Lacquer and Polished Chrome Cap, by Cross (FC0016IM-1MS) Review

Franklin Covey Lexington, Fountain Pen with Medium Nib, Midnight Black Lacquer and Polished Chrome Cap, by Cross (FC0016IM-1MS)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I found myself missing my fountain pens after several years and found that most stores don't carry them any more. After scanning many other Parkers and Pilots I settled on this one which is only a little more expensive than some disposable fountain pens available online.
This is a nice writing instrument, with a good weight and size and writes decently. This is made by Cross for Franklin Covey also you are guaranteed good quality although not the same level as the 5 times more expensive genuine Cross line up. The chrome and black lacquer look nice for business use. The nib writes with medium thickness and the writing is smooth, especially if you don't let the ink dry by leaving the pen open without the cap.
It came in a ordinary plastic package so may not make the best gift. However, I bought it for my own use and I am very pleased with it's performance. It came with one black ink cartridge, so you should order more with the pen. I found more detailed pictures of this pen on the Franklin Covey website if you want a closer look.

Lamy Safari White Medium Point Fountain Pen - L19WEM Review

Lamy Safari White Medium Point Fountain Pen - L19WEM
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My husband loves fountain pens and he's always had great luck with Lamy's Safari series. When he misplaced his favorite red one--he's still hoping to find it--I decided to get him a white one, a color which is either new or reissued (had two different explanations from pen shops). He loved it! He always prefers the medium nibs, but says all are good at writing smoothly & consistently with no blots or glops of ink. My only complaint was that it took 2-3 days longer to ship for some reason.

Aurora Style Paprika Resin Fountain Pen-F Review

Aurora Style Paprika Resin Fountain Pen-F
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the first fountain pen I've used in over 40 years and I'm very happy with it. The pen writes much smoother than I anticipated and was a good choice for my first fountain pen. The Fine nib is roughly the equivalent of the 0.7 gel pen I had been using. So far I've used it with Noodler's Blue-Black and Black Swan inks. This price is the best I've seen, and although it took about 10 days to receive, it was worth the wait.

Lamy Safari Calligraphy Black 1.5 Fountain Pen
This is a fine pen for calligraphy or just writing notes. Your handwriting will display style. I practice in English and Japanese, and the pen works well for both. The Lamy Safari Converter Z24 fits well so cartridges aren't necessary. The Lamy nib works well with Noodlers Bulletproof bottled inks in both black and blue colors. The quality of this pen is amazing for the price. I have 6 different fountain pens to choose from, some much more expensive than this Lamy, but I always pick this one because it makes my handwriting distinctive. You will enjoy writing again.
