(More customer reviews)1. Regarding the bottle style: The front filling compartment makes tip-filling easier. You no longer have to blindly dunk your pen down into the depths of the bottle (like, say, with Noodler's Inks) and wonder if you're only covering the tip of nib because you can't see where your pen actually is. The bottle style is also great when ink is running low, because one can move all the remaining ink to the partition in the front and sequester it, so it can be used more efficiently.
2. Regarding the ink: The ink is a perfect dark blue shade that worked wonderfully for my needs (patient chart documentation) and was remarkably smooth with my fine nib fountain pen. Also, it dried very quickly (no doubt this is also likely due to the fine lines I wrote with the fine nib--but I noticed it dried faster than some of my other inks). Faster drying means less smudging and eliminates the need for a blotter.

Overall, my new favorite ink!

(More customer reviews)Have to agree with the previous reviewer. These Montblanc refills run out at the drop of a hat. I have both the black and blue versions and both of them have run out after 3 days or so of use. At first I thought it was just clogged with paper debris or an air bubble, but after several minutes of trying, the ink just will not flow again.
These refills come with a little plastic end cap on them. I think you might need to store the refills (even the ones you are using in a pen) with the caps on in order to stop this dry out problemm but that's a ridiculously impractical solution. You might as well buy a cheap ballpoint pen.

(More customer reviews)four times I've tried to counter this -- there are 'comptuer colors' - that is, a color looks the same on every monitor using any browser -- but even that's not right - I'm interested in the CONTAINER -- Does it work, like the hidden pocket inside a bottle of Parker Ink - where you can put the nib of your pen so you can fill it without immersing the entire pen in the ink. So first one must ask are ALL inks the exactly same color (as it appears on Amazon as of now. What I wonder is DOES THE INK CONTAINER WORK? Mont Blanc makes some of the finest pens in the world. We might assume that they also make ink that works in one of the finest pens in the world, so that means it works in good pens, in poor pens things may be different-- but to give ONE START FOR the shown color is silly. Now finding a 'royal blue' is not diffiuclt - in drys - changes color. Parker, Waterman, Pelican, Sheaffer, Rotering, Mont Blanc, Levenger, and a hundred other companies make their own 'royal blue' -- each is it's own SPECIFIC color. Both in the bottle AND on the page, AND after it drys -- not to mention two weeks AFTER it drys. So, why does this get a 5-star rating? Because 1) I can shake the ink to re-suspend the color in the liquid, 2) the small end allows 99% of nibs to fit without over-flowing either the ink reservoir, or getting too much ink on the pen itself, 3) the ink drys reasonably fast, needing little more that a wave or two even if using a VERY large nib as one might find on the Shaffer Centennial (i.e. the 1940's over-sized pen like MacArthur used to sign the Japanese Peace Treaty). The shape is well designed, though not as simple as the small container inside the Parker Bottle - you can see far easier than the parker allows how much ink is left, and when you need to order some more. And, of course you DO pay a bit more for the ink because of the bottle, but the ink is fine - and the bottle works fine. It is far cheaper than purchasing a separate crystal ink well for your desk, and works just as well.

If you drop it or don't take care of it, it will crack and break. The same is true of a Pelikan or a Mont Blanc or any other light resin pen. I personally believe Cross makes the best refill so that is an advantage. I find the balance of this pen to be excellent. You can't go wrong with this pen.

It has a crystal on the top with a floating Montblanc star. The weight is good (heavier than the Montblanc classic) and it feels really modern. It has a shiny black barrel and makes you feel really good. I believe that one should have at least one good pen.

So, now that I've owned this pen, and a different brand, for just over two months, I can accurately speak to Montblanc's superior craftsmanship, and this pen's indisputable functionality. I'm receiving compliments on it, it's still my favorite, and even though I've dropped it more than once, the barrel and shaft on it make for a much more durable pen than the ones I've come across from other brands.
So, there you have it! If you're in the market for a stylish, elegant, and durable pen, you're looking at your best bet!

Okay, it's official: I've owned this pen for only three full days, and I completely LOVE it! It's even replaced my fountain pens for first place in my heart when it comes to writing instruments, and I've been collecting fountain pens for nearly a decade now! Everyone that's seen this pen has commented on what a nice pen it is (even my friend that made a vaguely critical comment about how mine has the same functionality as his, just at a higher price. Of course,
Since receiving my pen , I'm considering buying another one, this time in the black finish with silver trim.When it comes time for me to buy gifts for close friends, this pen is going to go to the top of my "ideas" list. I can't imagine anyone not finding this pen as enticing and useful as I've found it! It's like the old American Express ads: I never leave home without this pen! It's also reawakened my desire to draw during my free time! What a versatile, snazzy pen! Everyone should have one of these!So far, I'm very pleased with this pen.

Mont Blanc Starwalker Black Rubber & Metal Fountain Pen Review

(More customer reviews)I am pen collector with more than 100 pens in my personal collection; many by Mont Blanc. My wife bought me this pen as a gift. The primary issue with this pen is the poorly made plastic threads and their inability to hold up to "standard" use. When you contact Mont Blanc, they tell you this is "Simply normal wear and tear" and they will happily "Rebuild" the pen for $175. This occurs under normal careful use in less than 1 year. So if you buy this pen you are sigining up for $550.00 plus a charge of $175 every year plus the headache of managing a device that may fail at anytime.
On the positive side the idea is fantastic. It is a heavy pen with great balance. The pen cap screws onto the back during writing so will not fall off or damage the body during use.
For the price there are hundreds of pens better quality and with proven track records of performance. Since receiving this pen and its issues over the past 5 years I have spoken to the company 4 times with no resolution. It is now non-functional sitting in my display case where it will stay for life. Yes they market their pens to outlive their owners. This is just frankly not the case with this new line. Their quality has fallen and their service appears to be following.
