For the price the Parker IM Roller Ball is an excellent pen. Nice feel in your hand (has some weight to it) and the roller ball performs well. May not be for foks who don't like rollerballs, but otherwise a excellent choice!

(More customer reviews)This ink is darker than Montblanc and Lamy black inks, and it is lighter than Noodler's and Cross/Pelikan black inks. It is very good at not feathering on bad paper and just OK for writing on both sides of bad paper. It is water-resistant enough for addresses on envelopes and package labels, but it is not safe for writing checks. It is safe for old pens, and it is almost pH neutral. The bottle is a good shape for no-spill opening and no-spill filling.

Noodler's Heart of Darkness Black Fountain Pen Ink Review

(More customer reviews)I've been using ink pens since a long time before ballpoints & gel pens were even thought of. The more popular inks on the market were products of the pen manufacturers who seemed to devote their engeneering energies into the pens themselves, thus most inks were just functional. The only waterproof writing ink I remember was blue/black in color, & did lighten significantly when doused in water. Of course, there was India Ink with its deep black, etc, but it didn't function well at all in fountain pens. A friend introduced me to Noodler's Heart of Darkness, & I'm hooked. It's deep black color & resistance to water, etc, are outstanding. I especially like its non-feathering characteristic, which becomes more obvious when writing on flow grade & some recycled papers. Finally, the flow of ink from the pen nib is smooth and flawless. Without doubt......the best ink I've used. I prefer Noodler's eliminate the free pen, & thus reduce the cost of the ink a couple of bucks.

Pilot G2 Fine Point Rolling Ball Black Gel Ink Pens, 2-Pack (31031) Review

(More customer reviews)I used to swear this pen was the best but was forced to change my story. This pen has a couple of major failings. Fist the ink takes some time to dry so I am constantly smearing it. Second if you bump the tip at all the ball point gets damaged and leaks everywhere. If the tip is damaged it'll also not roll properly and write intermittently instead of a smooth consistent line. If you are using an edge to make a straight line the gel collects on the tip and will leave a blob on your paper, and also on your edge. Finally, while this pen is not a small fortune it is more expensive then my new favourite alternative the EnerGel from Pentel which is a better solution for the problems I've listed. When you write a letter or anything really, you should not feel the need to clean up like after you've been painting. This pen gets on everything even when you're careful.
