Pilot Namiki Knight Burgundy Ballpoint Pen Review

Pilot Namiki Knight Burgundy Ballpoint Pen

The pen itself is hefty, large, well balanced and nicely machined. All the parts fit together and remain snug. The pen is VERY comfortable in the hand IF you are used to pens that have larger barrels. It takes no effort whatsoever to write with this pen. The ink is VERY smooth flowing in fact, it's a bit too smooth flowing and it tends to blob a bit. Blobbing is worse with fine point than medium point. Lovely pen, so-so ink.

Yes, that is what I said, ergonomic awesomeness. Yeah, its just a pen, but at the same time, it will rock you in the face with its coolness. The barrel is insanely comfortable, the ink flows like water and dries like the desert sun. It will will rock your world. Enough said.

BIC Soft Feel Retractable Ballpoint Pen, Medium Point, Black, 12-Count Review

BIC Soft Feel Retractable Ballpoint Pen, Medium Point, Black, 12-Count
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a cheap pen addict. I've been through all the gels, the Space pen, and some fountain pens. I keep coming back to the humble ballpoint because it simply lasts longer and seems more durable in day-to-day use. It's the one type of pen that can write on any type of paper (shiny, porous, etc.) without worry.
I had the chance to try a Bic retractable pen a while back. It was emblazoned with some pharmacy's name but I was impressed with its performance. I use black ink exclusively and, in the cheap pen market, a good black pen is really hard to find. Up until now, it was the Fisher Space pen - but it's far from perfect. The Space pen often quits before fully exhausting the reservoir. I compare that with my Bic Crystal experiences from when I was a child. I would hang onto one of those until the barrel was completely clear - all its ink expelled in use. Anyway, back to the pen at hand here.
I picked up a 12 pack of Bic Soft Feel Retractable pens from a local Walgreens. I haven't seen them being sold in quantities less than that. Even at a dozen, they were only about $7 - a little over fifty cents a pen. The barrel isn't clear so you'll never know when you're out of ink but the soft feel is exquisite. The click top is a simple (read "cheap") piece of black plastic but it's functional and resounds with a satisfying "click" when you use it. Further down the barrel is a slightly wider barrel wrap - also soft feeling. The pen is feather-light and well balanced and the line it lays is as pitch-black as the Space pen (a $25 pen). Making loops with this Bic shows almost zero gapping in the line - actually performing better than the Space pen. All this in a pen I can give away to someone on the bus (because I keep half a dozen in my backpack). I highly recommend this pen and will be picking up a 12 pack of blue ones for my wife (since she prefers blue to black).

uni-ball 207 Retractable Medium-Point Gel Pens, 8 Colored Ink Pens (40110) Review

uni-ball 207 Retractable Medium-Point Gel Pens, 8 Colored Ink Pens (40110)

I'll start this review by saying that I'm obsessive-compulsive about certain things in my daily life. I'm a confessed pen junkie. I spend more time analyzing and picking out an ink pen than I do writing with them. I'm very partial to the color green, and I go out of my way to use green ink in everything that I write.
My pen of choice for green ink used to be a Waterman fountain pen. I never liked the pressure that I'd have to write with when using ballpoint pens, so the ease of using a fountain pen was the main selling point when I paid some serious cash for a fountain pen. It cost me about $100 to buy a few years ago (you pay for the quality), but it was a hassle to carry around with me and I had to mail order the 2 oz. bottles of green ink for refills. After a while, the pen just started to leak. The replacement for this pen was found in short order - with one major flaw that I'll highlight in a bit.
Everyone around me was always saying how well Uni-ball made gel ink pens and roller ball pens that required minimal pressure to write with. I tried a few, and was sold on these 207 pens, as well as the Vision Elite pens that they also make. The 207 pens write without blots or sporadic ink flow. They require minimal pressure, and they don't dry out like rollerball pens do - hence you can get them with a click mechanism instead of having a cap required. Now, the Uni-ball 207 is the only pen that I'll use for any writing that I have to do.
There are two major flaws with the green ink 207 pens, one of which has been fixed. First flaw was that the green ink 207 pens were never sold separate. I'd always have to buy the 8-pack and then just throw away the other 7 colors that I didn't want. I'd give them out to friends, co-workers, and art students, but it was still a hassle to pay about $17 for a single disposable pen. This was fixed when Wal-Mart began to sell the green and blue ink 207 pens as individual "impulse purchase" items in the checkout lanes of their stores. Which brings me to the second flaw of the 207 pens - green ink is not offered in the 0.5mm sized point. You can get the 0.5mm tip sized in a multi-pack that has 2 black, 1 red, and 1 blue pen - but no green. Right now I'm stuck with using the 0.7mm medium sized tip for my green 207 pen, but I hope that Uni-ball listens to their customer demand and starts offering a 0.5mm tip size with the green ink.

Pilot G2 Fine Point Rolling Ball Black Gel Ink Pens, 2-Pack (31031) Review

Pilot G2 Fine Point Rolling Ball Black Gel Ink Pens, 2-Pack (31031)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I used to swear this pen was the best but was forced to change my story. This pen has a couple of major failings. Fist the ink takes some time to dry so I am constantly smearing it. Second if you bump the tip at all the ball point gets damaged and leaks everywhere. If the tip is damaged it'll also not roll properly and write intermittently instead of a smooth consistent line. If you are using an edge to make a straight line the gel collects on the tip and will leave a blob on your paper, and also on your edge. Finally, while this pen is not a small fortune it is more expensive then my new favourite alternative the EnerGel from Pentel which is a better solution for the problems I've listed. When you write a letter or anything really, you should not feel the need to clean up like after you've been painting. This pen gets on everything even when you're careful.
