(More customer reviews)This pen (with silver accents) is one of more than 50 ballpoints (non-disposable) I own. It is probably my favorite for wearing in a dress shirt pocket because it's relatively light (but not flimsy), not too thick (but not nearly as slim as an old-style Cross, which I hate), and the clip goes all the way to the top of the pen, so it doesn't stick up and out of your pocket, which I think makes one look like an engineering student.
If you buy one, note your, or your intended recipient's, preference for belt buckle, cuff links, etc. when selecting silver or gold-tone.
It is not a knockoff, but fans of heavier MBs might be disappointed. I have an original style Meisterstruck ballpoint that I bought in the early 1980s (the newer ones look a little more cheaply made to me today). The Generation is noticebly lighter than the old Meisterstruck, but not so much so as to bother me.
You should know that in the past the Generation has been available for corporations to put their logos on. In fact, some company years ago that I had business with gave me a blue one with its logo on the barrel. I liked the pen very much, but not the logo, so I gave it away and bought my own black Generation without promotional labeling.
The price I see Amazon asking for the Generation today (5/22/11) is about twice what I paid for mine, if I remember correctly, and twice what anyone else should pay. The pens in my collection probably range in price (full retail) from about $50 to about $500 each. However, I paid far less than retail for each of them by carefully shopping the internet and ordering from a wide variety of reputable vendors. Yes, I am confident that none of them are knockoffs.
One more note about the MB, I find their ballpoint ink to be about the blackest I've experienced. It does seem to be a bit thicker than that in Parker and Sheaffer refills. I generally buy mediums. Parker is probably my favorite as it's less prone to clumping on the page than MB. I love Lamy pens, but their medium points need a good breaking-in before they'll draw a satisfying line; that's why I buy their refills in broad.
