(More customer reviews)I purchased this pen over a year ago, and I am very sorry that I have. It was very difficult to get the ink to start flowing - sometimes requiring being dipped in water or a "spit shine" on the nib- and when I did there was serious "nib creep" where the ink slipped out of the groove on the nib. The flow of ink was irregular, and despite the reviewer who said warm water renewed the flow, when it happened with mine it took soaking the pen in very hot water for an hour to even begin to see ink again. It was even more irregular afterwards.
The pen comes with an attached rubber "bladder" (that does not come off to put cartridges in, it is firmly attached to the pen nib.) that is compressed inside to suck up the ink. It never sucks up a full bladder's worth of ink, so that refills must occur every 10-15 lines or writing. The bladder tends to stick to itself as well, so you can't even compress or expand it after a while to soak the ink up. No amount of cleaning has remedied this issue for me.
I found the only time it did work was after it had had more than 10 minutes to warm up in my hand. But the constant refilling of the pen meant I could not take it with me anywhere and count on it for writing for an extended period of time. I would recommend instead going with a Lamy Al-Star. It can use either converter or cartridges and I have never had an issue. It is also cheaper and far less heavy than this pen.
I wouldn't even give this to somebody who was curious about fountain pens because it has such irregular and poor performance. It's a shame, because the pen is lovely and I really wanted to like it.
