I have to admit that i am a Pelikan freak. Among the 70-80 fountain pens i own, my hand usually moves towards a Pelikan when I wish to start a new essay, a travel report, short story or a poem. I write what i write with fountain pens to leave unintelligible records, because i enjoy using fountain pens tremendously. I keep five pens inked all the time, three Pelikans, one Namiki Vanishing Point and one Rotring 600 with different color inks. the last for the extra fine details. i allow my wife to use my Lamys, Watermans, Montblancs, and i have not yet touched the two i bought for their looks, the Pelikan Concerto (which has Beethoven's Ode to Joy's opening bars on an 800 body), and a very limited edition silver Carandache with Turkish Mint gold on the clip and Turkish Mint logos.
My hands are between M and L when i buy gloves. The pelikan 600 is the best fit without the lid. So is the Namiki which does not have a lid. When i use the Pelikan 150, 200 or the 400s, i am more comfortable with attaching the lid to the back of the pen. I get a better grip and like the balance. I am not comfortable writing with an 800 but love its looks. The 300 is for my wife's purse, not to write with but as an accessory.
I have never had any Pelikan leak on my fingers and i have used them on and off since 1957 when i managed to get my first at the age of 13 with money i saved from my weekly allowances.
Coming to the 205 Blue transparent, i have to say that i liked the picture first and now that i have it, i love its looks. The blue is a very arrogant blue, the chromium completes it beautifully. It does not look cheap at all like some other demonstrators i own. It is not a toy. It is a serious writing man's tool, yet it will allow me to be funny when it wishes.
The Fine nib is definitely that. It is fine, and more than fine. Moves fluently and makes sure that my writing continues to be unreadable because the pen matches my thinking speed. Tonight, i will sit with my sacrificing wife and we will both try to decipher what the Pelikan 205 blue demonstrator has written for us. I have bought some more joy for less than $90. Thanks Pelikan.
