There is something missing in the Namiki Yukari Collection Autumn Leaves. To put it simply, once one has seen and held the Libelle Autumn Leaves fine writing instrument, nothing else satisfies. Libelle's rollerball in particular, is an exquisite work of art that conveys everything we love about Autumn with colors and craftsmanship impossible to describe. It truly amazes and takes one's breath away. While cost is seldom a consideration to the dedicated collector of fine writing instruments, it must be mentioned that Libelle is far more delicate, beautiful, and stunning for $3,140.00 LESS than Namiki. It is best left to the individual to consider what exactly Namiki did with that surplus, but it certainly was not invested in the design and artistic expression displayed in this instrument. Another consideration is Laban's Autumn Flake, which is nearly as elegant as Libelle's effort for approximately the same price. The Laban speaks to the darker months of Fall and does so with a fantastic use of light and color. I would be hard pressed making a selection between the two and in fact obtained both, inspiring a separate section of my collection dedicated exclusively to the Autumn Season alone. Perhaps that says a great deal about the Namiki because it is difficult to imagine it sparking that same enthusiasm in any collector that it would necessitate the redesign of an entire personal collection. However, this is certainly a subjective view, for their is no faulting the quality and craftsmanship of Namiki at any time. It is very possible that if not for Laban and Libelle making similar thematic creative choices, I would be singing the praises of this particular Namiki. So it is sad to say that in the lengthening shadows of Laban and Libelle, Namiki fades into the Fall twilight. I found myself donating the funds I would have normally invested in this instrument to the Fund for the Preservation of World Historic Monuments, a more than worthy cause and one that provides a vital service to our cultural heritage, now under threat by barbarians in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Utah. Ironically, I found myself writing the check in the amount of $3,140.00 from my Autumn Collection account using my Libelle Autumn Leaves Rollerball! I addressed the envelope with my Laban Autumn Flake...
