Very nice pen indeed. I disagree with the previuos comment that is a cheap product. It is in fact a masterpiece of timeless design and elegant understatement. If you really would like to make a modern statement of understatement, than the Lamy 2000 line offers a very suitable way. It does in fact, have a rasperry sound when operated, but it's because of its superb mechanism that handles four pens with a single control (unlike the other cheap multipens which handle each pen with a separate control). I have upgraded mine with a yellow Lamy stylus pen for PDA's and an orange underliner from Rotring. In the case of the refills, I personally prefer Rotring to the original ones but I think is a matter of taste. In the case of the previuos review where the pens have to be priorly initialised, that's not the Lamy's fault, but that of the installed refill. I gave it four stars because it is in fact a delicate instrument that requires a small drop of oil once a year to operate smoothly and as with the other Lamy 2000 ballpen -now upgraded-, with use, the top piece where the button resides gets deformed with time up until the pen stops operating altogether, a new pen being in order. The other downside being, that the pens don't carry enough ink, but yet again, you are in fact carrying four pens so there should be no problem if one of them fails. Being a heavy user, all around I feel very pleased with the Lamy 2000 line and have been buying substitutes of the multi-pen and the filler pen every five years, but then again, after so much time they get pretty well used up too, so a new pen is always a pleasure have.
