(More customer reviews)No fountain pen is cheap, but the Pilot Ecrino comes close with its $30-$40 price range -- and it writes like a million! Originally I got one as a cheap backup to my Waterman pens, but it soon eclipsed more expensive models because of its superior smoothness and resistance to blotting. Many fountain pens have a fat barrel, but the Ecrino is slender and fits the hand well while still being full-sized. Pilot keeps the price down with a plain glossy plastic shell, but it's attached to a GREAT nib. (This Japanese company is renowned for the quality of its nibs, and offers an Extra Fine option that you don't see very often.) Line is smooth and flowing, delivering fountain pen style without the usual headaches. A great first pen for the fountain pen newbie.
