(More customer reviews)My mother purchased for me a Shaeffer pen when I was a little tyke in grade school probably thinking that I would write better if I have a better instrument. I think it worked for a little while until I discovered a typewriter and now a computer, which in my mind, that is when most people loose their writing skills. Even now, technology has forced us to the keyboard and away from hand-writing notes, letters, etc.
Now that I'm 60 years old, I miss those times when I had to write "I will not throw spitballs" a hundred times which only made my handwriting worse. I have two Sheaffer pens both are fairly expensive but I really enjoy them. If anything, I need to use them more often so that the nibs don't dry out between uses.
I would recommend either this pen, the Valor, which uses a nib that is part of the pen or any Sheaffer that has the older nib.
The only thing that I worry about is the quality may decrease since I have heard that the majority of the low-end fountain pens are being made in China and apparently they aren't as good as the older American Made Sheaffer. I would suggest that if your going to pay over $100 for a fountain pen get one that is still made here in the states, if they are an American company or one that is made in Europe. The Japanese have always made a good fountain pen, but the price has been out of my reach.
Oh, and gooooooo real sloooooow when you write; you should not be in a hurry with a fountain pen.
