(More customer reviews)I received this Pilot Knight (Burgundy Barrel) as a gift, and I was not disappointed. This is my second fountain pen, my first being the Lamy Safari - Fine Point. The entire package is very complete. It comes in a very nice (possible faux)leather case, which has three little notches to hold pens, one holding the Pilot Knight itself. Underneath the plastic piece that holds the pen is an ink cartridge (blue) and a small use and care guide along with a 3-year warranty registration card.
In the pen itself is a squeeze style ink converter - very easy to use. The pen is almost completely metal, and thick sturdy metal at that. It has a nice solid feel without being chunky. The burgundy barrel looks wonderful, and the shiny silver accents add a great touch to the over look of the pen. The pen cap stays on well, and the clip is thick and sturdy, so you won't have to worry about it bending or breaking off.
So far I have only used Noodler's Blue Eel ink in the pen and it's been a very smooth writer almost immediately from the get go. No leaking or problems at all so far.
Overall, a very well constructed pen for a very competitive price. You won't regret picking this one up. I'd say it's more of a home/office use pen, whereas the Lamy Safari makes a better carry-around pen. I would definitely consider this being an excellent first fountain pen or present. I may even buy another one so I can have two colors available at once.
***UPDATE:
More good news. I have used the pen with regular Noodler's Bulletproof Black Ink, and have found, to my surprised delight, that this pen writes even more smoothly than my Lamy Safari. I still recommend this pen, as it is not only attractive and functional, but also a very complete package, providing you with an ink cartridge, an ink converter for the use of bottled inks, and a case (the same can't be said for my Lamy Safari). Still pleased.
