(More customer reviews)I went through a fountain pen craze some years ago and amassed a small collection. This pen has endured where most of the others have been set aside. It is still being widely used and is my favorite for a variety of reasons. The retractable point is more of an advantage than it first appears. Yes, it's grand not to worry about losing a cap, but even better, you can manage it one-handed and in a meeting where you are taking sporadic notes, you can easily retract the point to reduce dry-out when not writing.
Speaking of drying out--this pen scores very high in remaining useable even after laying untouched for weeks. Another feature that I like very much about this pen is the smooth writing nib. The reason I use more than my share of fountain pens is because I'm left-handed and write at a slant that renders most pens annoyingly scratchy. A good fountain pen can eliminate that problem, but some pens dry out too fast, or leak or you can't take them on planes where air pressure causes problems. This pen has served me well on all counts.
The pen is not perfect, but it is closer than the others. Extending and retracting the point does cause some small ink droplets to collect inside the barrel, so it's wise to wipe off the barrel before changing the cartridge or refilling it to avoid getting ink on your hands, but I've never had ink on the outside of the pen, which happens sometimes with a capped pen. There is a tiny retractable door in the barrel tip that seals off the nib when it is retracted. That keeps the nib from drying out and keeps any slight leakage inside (and not on me). I also wish I could find cartridge refills more easily--it takes a specific kind and I usually have to buy them on-line. But all in all, it is the best all around fountain pen I've used and I've used many, from inexpensive to high-end. If you want a fountain pen for regular use, this is about as good a one as you'll find. It's not as glamorous as a Mont Blanc, but it's good-looking and is a lot more practical.
